What to look for when purchasing refrigerated air:
Probably the most important item is the size of the unit. If its too small it wont do the job. If its too large it will short cycle causing excessive wear and tear and improper cooling.
What about electrical service?
Is your current electrical service big enough to handle your new air conditioner? What about the ductwork? Does it need to be changed? What if it is rusted or if it has leaks?
Efficiency of the air conditioning system:
There is a lot to choose from. 13 SEER is the current lowest efficiency and it can go as high as 21SEER depending on size.
Refrigerated air vs. evaporative cooling:
Evaporative cooling is not real air conditioning. Evaporative cooling is a huge humidifier that uses water evaporation to cool down air. It uses water that is pumped to pads made out of wood shavings or cardboard and as hot dry air passes through it, it will be cooled down by evaporation. It’s a very simple machine that works great as long as the air is dry (usually les than 25% relative humidity) and you don’t mind getting humid outside air into your home. Once the humidity rises above 25% RH the efficiency starts to diminish. According to most manufactures the most an evaporative cooler can cool down your home at prime conditions is 20 degrees from the outside air temperature. So if the outside temperature is 105 degrees and it is lower than 25% RH the most you can expect is 85 degrees inside your home. If the RH humidity is higher than that then it more than likely wont get that cold.
Refrigerated air in arid environments.
Refrigeration is becoming more and more popular in desert areas like El Paso and the southwest as populations grows. Cities like Phoenix and Tucson have all but been converted to refrigeration due to the high humidity levels caused mainly by population growth.
Fortunately for all of us there is refrigeration. Refrigerated air is the answer to all your problems concerning comfortable air conditioning. Regardless of the outside conditions, refrigeration will make your living space very comfortable. Besides this, nowadays there are very sophisticated systems that will add to the convenience of air conditioning.
Converting to refrigerated air doesn’t need to be a fearful experience. With the help of the proper professional it can be a good experience. There are certain factors to consider. First, what are your expectations? Do you just want cool refrigerated air or are you also looking into good air quality? How about efficiency? What about the service after the sale? What about proper maintenance? What type of warranty should your purchase? Which is the best brand? All these are reasonable concerns.
There are different types of air conditioning that you can purchase. You can purchase a simple system that will cool your home and not use too much electricity. The efficiencies start at 13 SEER. (The larger the number the better the system is electrical consumption). Carrier systems start at 13 SEER and go as high as 20S SEER, depending on the size. They also offer systems the are more comfortable. For example a 16 SEER variable speed system will help in making the temperatures in your home more even and avoid peeks and valleys temperature wise.
Indoor air quality is a big issue nowadays. Clean air and removal of dust particles, mold and humidity are concerns many people have. We offer a variety of products like high performance filters and UV lights that will help you keep your home cleaner.
